Friends of Borstal Open Spaces (BOSS) volunteers group was formed in 2006 with the following objectives: To ensure Borstal Recreation Grounds and Baty's Marsh (local nature reserve) are protected from the threat of future building development and to work with Medway Council to improve the recreational uses of the sites and also to enhance their environmental values.

Pilgrims school help with tree planting 

On the 1st December BOSS and Pilgrims school, planted trees on the Centenary walk to replace the dead elms.

POLICE award BOSS funds to help with clear up project

At our AGM of the 19th March 2009 the police presented Borstal Open Space with £400 to contribute to clear ups in the the village

A BOSS member is to undertake an audit of the plant species which are present on Baty's Marsh, which will update the 1993 recorded information.

Forthcoming events:

 

6th BATY's MARSH CLEAR UP  

Please come and join us clear up the marsh of the debris and rubbish, which has been washed up onto the marsh over the winter. MEDWAY COUNCIL is supplying all equipment and there will be tea, coffee, squash and biscuits for the helpers.

ANY HELP WELCOME ! event if is only for 1/2 hour

 

NEXT WORK PARTY EVENT 

 

5th June - Viewing Platform Tidy and litter pick - 9.30am 

 

10th July  - Litter Pick of areas surrounding recreation ground 

 

2nd October - Co-op Footpath (RR26) clear up  - Please get in touch to help 

 

Sep/Oct - Bluebell Planting - TBC

 

16th October - Tree Cutting session

PAST EVENTS 2009

Co-op Footpath clear up - BOSS undertook a clear up of the footpath in October and removed lots of rubbish with lots of help from local residence and helpers from Borstal community service.

If you would like to become a member of the Friends of Borstal Open Spaces please get in touch, fill out the Membership form on the contact us page of the website or come along and take part in one of our events, everyone is very welcome.

 

Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in the open spaces of the village of Borstal.

The open spaces within Borstal are a haven for wildlife! We are extremely lucky having a recreation ground for sport and leisure, with a local nature reserve (Baty's Marsh) right next door!
